Privacy Policy
What CostToClose collects (very little), how Google AdSense ads and cookies work, your rights under Canadian privacy law, and how to contact us about your data.

CostToClose is operated by R. Tiwari, individually, from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada — no separate corporate entity has been formed for the site. This policy explains what information the site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It is written to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the GDPR and UK GDPR. 1. What we collect — and what we do not
We do not collect the numbers you enter. Calculations run in your browser. Nothing you type into a calculator is sent to our server or stored by us.
Saved calculations use your browser's local storage on your own device. We cannot see them. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
Share links encode your inputs in the link itself. Anyone you send the link to can see those inputs. We do not log shared links.
Address search. When you type an address, the characters you type are sent to LocationIQ (Unwired Labs), our geocoding provider, to return address suggestions. We use the result only to identify the province and municipality for the calculation and do not store the address. LocationIQ's own policy governs its handling: https://locationiq.com/privacy
Fonts. The typefaces used on this site are self-hosted — the font files are served from costtoclose.ca itself, not from Google's or any other third party's servers, so no separate request or IP address disclosure to a font provider happens when a page loads.
Email. If you email us, we keep the correspondence to respond to it and for our records.
Server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) records standard request data — IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps — for security and performance, retained for a limited period under Cloudflare's policy.
We do not require accounts, collect names, or sell or rent personal information to anyone.
2. Advertising (Google AdSense)
The site displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google, and third-party vendors that participate in Google's advertising network, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance.

Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland will see a consent message before any advertising cookies are set, as required by Google's EU User Consent Policy. You can change your choice at any time through the "Privacy settings" link in the footer.
3. Analytics
We do not use analytics tracking beyond the aggregate, non-identifying statistics provided by our hosting provider.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking advertising cookies does not affect the calculators.
5. Why we use this information (legal bases)
To operate and secure the site (legitimate interests); to serve advertising that funds the site (consent, where required by law; otherwise legitimate interests); to respond to your messages (legitimate interests); to comply with legal obligations.
6. Sharing and international transfers
We share data only with the service providers named above (Cloudflare, Google, LocationIQ), each of which processes it under its own privacy terms and may do so on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. We do not sell personal information.
7. Retention
We keep email correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period afterwards. We do not retain calculator inputs or addresses. Provider logs are retained under each provider's policy.
8. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you may ask what personal information we hold about you, request correction, or withdraw consent. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and may lodge a complaint with their supervisory authority. To exercise any right, email hello@costtoclose.ca. Given how little we collect, most requests will find there is nothing to return.
9. Children
The site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
10. Changes
We will post changes here and update the date at the top when this policy changes.
